3 Ways to Use TikTok to Establish Yourself as an Expert
Updated: Aug 17, 2022
TikTok’s popularity skyrocketed in 2021 during the pandemic lockdown. TikTok now has 130 million active users in the US alone. With TikTok being one of the fastest-growing video platforms, it may be the right place for you and your business to grow and promote. TikTok can be an influential tool for audiences as you can answer their questions, demonstrate your products or services, and become an expert on your product.
Create a Clear Goal for Yourself
TikTok’s audience is unique, so becoming the go-to person on a specific topic or field can help you nail down your messaging. You need to have a clear intention behind your content as TikTok allows you to zero in on a specific subject and become the person for the job. Your goal should be to either educate, inspire, answer questions, or dispel myths. A great example is Dr. Julie Smith who has become a TikTok expert for mental health and psychology. Dr. Smith educates her audience in psychology and creates a unique personality by following trends and putting music and humor in her videos.
Embrace TikTok Trends
TikTok has become the place for Gen Z, Millennials, and boomers to interact with each other and find sources they trust. It has become the destination for sharing and communicating about various categories of everyday life and that’s where TikTok’s superpower lies. TikTok videos don’t have to be polished or professional to be viral sensations, you can take a more approachable attitude and have fun with your videos. You can depend on TikTok trends if you need ideas or need to put more personality into your brand. TikTok trends are constantly changing and evolving so you can adapt most of them to what you talk about. Spend time on your For You Page (FYP) and on the discovery page to get more ideas for challenges, trends, and hashtags. Start saving your favorite trends and sounds to play with later and you’ll never run out of ideas!

Hint: To favorite a song/sound, tap the spinning circular icon at the bottom right corner of the video and it will show you the name of the song, from there you can tap “Add to Favorites” to save it.
LinkedIn sponsored a challenge called Work this Way that has some great examples of how to have personality in your video and being more personal.
Use TikTok Q&A
If you have your profile set as a creator, you can choose to add the TikTok Q&A to your profile. Your audience can use this feature to ask questions or get help for their needs, struggles, and pain points. You can then answer those questions or help your audience directly and TikTok will link your video to the Q&A tab on your profile. Encourage your audience to ask questions about your products or services and make sure to give straightforward answers and answer to the fullest of your knowledge. Using the Q&A feature will establish you as an expert in your area of work.
TikTok is a unique platform filled with unique audiences and equally interesting videos. Using this platform will put you in a special position and you will be able to establish yourself as an expert in your area of expertise. Creating goals for yourself makes it easier to engage with your audience and create content more consistently. Following TikTok trends will make your brand seem more personal and build a personality for it. Using the TikTok Q&A feature allows your audience to interact directly with you and for you to answer their questions and show your expertise off. Use these 3 methods to build a personality-filled brand that stands out on TikTok to increase your audience and your brand’s trustworthiness.
